The History of Trotter's Restaurant

A Family History:
In 1906, George F. Trott moved from the cold and rocky soil of a family farm in Maine to the warmer promise of the Pacific Northwest.  His Uncle Irving, who had moved to Slaughter in the 1880's, had sold his nephew on an idea of dairy farming in the town now known as Auburn.  George F. purchased fifteen acres of prime valley farmland with a huge barn that is the childhood memories of many of Auburn's "old timers" as a wonderful play place.  George F. and his wife Edna had two children, Eleanor and George I., who graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1940.  George I. joined the army and served on a ship that laid undersea communications cable in the Pacific during WWII.  He returned home to Auburn after the war, knowing he did not want to run a dairy farm and began working for the telephone company and raising a family.
The Story of Trotter's
The restaurant that is now Trotter's, opened its doors in 1971 as a "Big Scoop Sundae Parlor."  This was during the economic bust of the early 1970's that prompted the now famous billboard stating, "Last one in Seattle, please turn out the lights."  George I. Trott, who now was a supervisor with a local airplane manufacture, was given the chance to start over again after severe cut-backs in the work force.  George and his wife Jean decided on a Big Scoop franchise so they could be in better control of their own employment.  It was a tough time to open a restaurant, but with a good business background and lots of hard work, Big Scoop flourished for 15 years.
In 1986 they decided to enlarge the building to better serve a now bustling and growing Auburn community.  A name change was also in order to go with the new updated look and "Trotter's Family Restaurant" was born.  We take pride in the fact that Trotter's is not only a good place to eat but also a good place to work.  The staff at Trotter's welcomes you and we hope you enjoy your stay.
